Now, watch this:
Pretty cool, huh?
This week in class we'll be discussing leadership through the lens of social change - the idea that you, we, and the community engage in leadership together in order to create some sort of change that benefits society, whether that be around the corner or around the world.

| Social Change Model of Leadership - YEAH. |
At this point you have read the story of Luma Mufleh and the Fugees in Outcasts United in addition to the nuts and bolts of the Social Change Model of Leadership. And you've hopefully figured out that this story is about a lot more than middle school soccer practice. For your blog assignment this week, I'd like you to spend some time thinking about how Luma, the Fugees, the community, and others involved in the Outcasts United story contributed to the process of social change. A few considerations to help focus your post:
- Please cite specific examples from the Outcasts United story (let's say at least 3) that relate to/showcase the Social Change Model of Leadership. Call out specific pieces of or theories from the model that are apparent in the book.
- Consider Luma's approach to leadership. What about her approach is consistent throughout her work with the Fugees? How does she adapt her approach to fit the situation and the personalities of the players and their families? Think about the theories we've discussed and books/articles we've read.
- What did you personally find most interesting and/or inspiring about this story? Why?
Write about anything else you'd like to help you reflect on the story, as well. We'll discuss further in class AND have the amazing opportunity to hear from Luma herself on Tuesday, November 15th when she comes to campus! (Thank you, Julie Schultz, for snagging us tickets.)
[Side note: Feeling the futbol? Noodle on the possibility of SLAmmers soccer this winter/spring...]
